I read a survey recently that talked about how many store managers have been given permission to allow you to haggle prices of products. For most major retailers, this is something that has never really happened. For example, if you walked into a Best Buy and looked to purchase a new TV, you would simply pay the price as stated and that was that. Today, some of these managers are empowered to allow for discounts should you ask for them and the key is YOU must initiate the negotiations.
My daughter is a cheerleader for California All Stars, an elite academy for this competitive sport that makes the cheers I used to see at high school football games look like elementary age patty-cake. When she injured herself in a bike accident and couldn't cheer she began to huff and puff about going to practice to support her team. She said, "I will be bored and I won't learn anything." My response was "Change your attitude and you will change your experience."
Courage is what separates the winners from the wanna-be's. Courage does not mean you are not scared. It is being scared and moving forward anyway. Remember going off the high dive as a kid? That was so scary! It took courage to jump. Hopefully you did. Riding a bike? Courage. Having children? Courage. You definitely have it in you-starting your own business is just another way to express it.
The first step an inventor needs to take is to do a thorough patent search. This does not mean going to a retail store and seeing if your idea already exists on the shelves. Just because an item is not being sold at retail does not mean that someone does not have a patent or patent or patent pending on the idea.
If you have a high individual net worth or you are working toward a high individual net worth, you need to understand the power of a marital property agreement, both before and after marriage. It is my position as a business attorney with family law experience and as a business owner myself that marital property agreements are like Cinderella: mistreated and overlooked in their real value to business owners and their families. Cinderella was a gorgeous, sweet step sister hidden and mistreated by her stepsisters and stepmother.
Self-esteem is how you rate yourself deep down. It is a belief and a confidence in your own ability and value. It is not the same as arrogance and a sense of superiority but a gentle knowing that:
You like yourself. You think you're a good human being. You deserve love. You deserve happiness. You feel deep down in your inner knowing that you are an OK person.
But where does that ability come from?
