What it Takes To Go Public
In business, as in life, timing is everything. While today it may not be the ideal time to launch an IPO for most companies, it is the time to prepare for the future.
By the age of 25, I had a degree in Engineering from USC and a real estate broker's license. I'd already dealt in highly desirable Santa Monica real estate while earning money in my spare time dealing casino Blackjack. But I certainly wasn't prepared for what was about to happen next.
My daughter is a cheerleader for California All Stars, an elite academy for this competitive sport that makes the cheers I used to see at high school football games look like elementary age patty-cake. When she injured herself in a bike accident and couldn't cheer she began to huff and puff about going to practice to support her team. She said, "I will be bored and I won't learn anything." My response was "Change your attitude and you will change your experience."
A sign of a successful person is their ability to edit. It becomes a matter of looking at your day-to-day activities and picking out the few critical tasks which will further you the most. What is the Pareto Principle? Otherwise known as the 80/20 rule this principle says 20% of the work you do accounts for 80% of your results. The 80/20 rule is the answer to the question you are bound to be asked, "How do you manage to do it all?" Don't do it all do what is most important.
Constantly strive to create better habits for yourself. We are creatures of habit. For the most part our days are largely repetitive. We literally operate out of habit. Have you ever unwittingly turned the wrong way out of the habit? For example you robotically turned right instead of left at an intersection because the majority of the time it's the way you go? That's habit at work. If you can become mindful of your day-to-day habits you will see opportunity for improvement.
I would suggest as part of your evolution you divide up the household chores. Your family may grumble at first if the workload gets shifted to them but independence is good for everyone. Be prepared. According to sociologist Arlie Russell Hochschild, on average, working women with spouses still reported doing about 75% of the household tasks. The women reported doing 80% of the domestic management. Women also took more physical care of their children. You are going to have your plate full. Why not relieve the pressure? If you have a husband be sure to include him.
There are all kinds of reasons to think negative thoughts. In many cases we are perfectly justified in doing so. If we are thinking badly of someone or some situation there is usually a reason. But does that energize us? No. Are we at peace when we are engaging in these thoughts? No. If we have failed at something does berating ourselves increase our chances for future success? No again. For the really adept there is even recreational negative thoughts. It is called creating scenarios or making mountains out of molehills.

The difference between these moms and the rest of the world is they pushed forward in spite of it. Timing, trends and offering real value have a good bit to do with success but the overall basic personality traits are consistent.
