Household Management
Joyce Bone
I would suggest as part of your evolution you divide up the household chores. Your family may grumble at first if the workload gets shifted to them but independence is good for everyone. Be prepared. According to sociologist Arlie Russell Hochschild, on average, working women with spouses still reported doing about 75% of the household tasks. The women reported doing 80% of the domestic management. Women also took more physical care of their children. You are going to have your plate full. Why not relieve the pressure? If you have a husband be sure to include him. Engage the children. They need to learn these life skills anyway. Do not be little red hen doing everything. In my family it was decided my husband would be solely responsible for the laundry and I am solely responsible for the kitchen. We in turn are training our children to ultimately take the jobs over for us thereby freeing us up. Just this division of labor has been so helpful. I have more time and it feels really good knowing my husband is supportive of me.
