Stop Thinking Negative Thoughts
Joyce Bone
There are all kinds of reasons to think negative thoughts. In many cases we are perfectly justified in doing so. If we are thinking badly of someone or some situation there is usually a reason. But does that energize us? No. Are we at peace when we are engaging in these thoughts? No. If we have failed at something does berating ourselves increase our chances for future success? No again. For the really adept there is even recreational negative thoughts. It is called creating scenarios or making mountains out of molehills. Haven't you ever caught yourself doing that? Jumping from point a to point c without missing a beat? Here is the best piece of advice I have ever heard on stopping negative thinking-just stop. Do not allow yourself to think that way. This might sound funny but try it. You might be surprised at how much negative self-talk goes through your mind. If you are going down that road replace it with another more positive thought.
It seems society as a whole thinks buys into the concept if you thinking it the thought is valid and you must pay attention to it. This is just not true. The idea "if I am thinking it than it must be valid" is unreasonable. Your brain is a filter for thoughts just like your ears are for hearing. If you hear a background noise you barely even notice it. You don't think, "I am hearing this so I must pay the utmost attention to it". We can create havoc on our happiness by letting our thoughts take on a life of their own. Breaking this habit may seem unnatural at first but it does get easier. It is not being suggested that you stick your head and the sand and pretend problems don't exist. What is being suggested is many times small injustices get way too much of our attention. Just let it go. Fuming over a jerk in traffic is not worth the energy and happiness it drains. When you really do have a problem that must be addressed you can still handle the negative thoughts in a more positive way. Address the issue on your terms and on your time frame. Do not let the person or situation space in your brain. It will only make for a miserable day. Do not focus on it until you have accomplished your 20% work for the day. Do you want your success slowed down over a problem? That is prime time and nothing should stand in its way short of an emergency, death or a call from the school's nurse's office. The bottom line is if something has you so down you should take action at the appropriate time to fix it and move on. If you can't fix it you must release it. Life rewards people of action. The best things come to those who make things happen. It applies to negative thinking to-actively control it. Pick a time and place that is right for you to handle the feelings and think through the situation. For me that time is when I am exercising. The physical aspect of running and lifting weights allows the negative feelings to move through and out of me. Plus the additional oxygen to my brain helps with problem solving. You can't let things go that easily? Yes you can if you want to. Are you striving to be the best you can be or are you going to let life push you around? Only you can make that decision. You can create happiness and financial abundance in your life by making these shifts or you can continue to do what you have been doing with similar results. It is a package deal. You need to embrace the process of becoming the person who is prepared to receive abundance. You might make lots of money following my other advice but you may not keep it and you will feel unfulfilled if you don't learn handle it. My business partner told me once, "Being rich is not for the faint of heart." I thought that was a funny statement at the time but life has shown me he was right.
